Delhi Election Results 2025: BJP Stages AAP-da For Kejriwal; What Led To Saffron Surge - Five Factors
Delhi Election Result 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party has managed to do the unthinkable in Delhi by ousting the Aam Aadmi Party which ruled the capital for 10 years after ousting the well-settled Congress. While the BJP is likely to win around 48 seats, the AAP is likely to get 22 seats out of the total 70 seats. The BJP is returning to power in the city after 27 years as the Congress struggles to open its account for the third consecutive term. Here are five factors that may have helped BJP ace AAP challenge:
BJP Breaks AAP Juggernaut

The BJP has manged to find a counter of AAP's juggernaut in Delhi and as per the Election Commission, a saffron surge is likely in Delhi. The BJP, which earlier was against free electricity, fought the Delhi polls on AAP's pitch and won the match. Congress is likely to drew a blank for the third consecutive time.
Income Tax Rebate

Delhi is a hub of cosmopolitan voters and a large number of taxpayers. The income tax rebate of up to Rs 12 lakhs given in budget 2025 may have worked wonders for middle-class voters. The BJP made it a poll issue as well and thus may have successfully wooed the middle and upper-class voters with this.
8th Pay Commission

Ahead of the Delhi elections, the Union Cabinet announced the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission from 2026. There are around 4 lakh employees in Delhi, including defence and Delhi government employees, who stand to benefit from the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission panel.
Ladli Behan Scheme, Women Voters

The BJP has aced Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh assembly elections with a massive mandate riding on the women's welfare schemes like Ladki Bahin or Ladli Behan yojana under which women are given Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 monthly aid. The BJP has been delivering on its promise in these two states and the promise may have resonated with the women voters of the national capital. AAP, on the other hand, made a similar promise to Punjab voters but has failed to start the scheme even after two years of coming to power. The BJP also promised to continue the existing welfare policies like free water and electricity that helped it add more voters.
Muslim Voters

The BJP has done surprisingly well in the Muslim majority seats including Mustafabad. This indicates that the BJP has managed to mobilize a certain percentage of Muslim voters in its favour which increased its vote share, tilting the result in its favour.
Candidate Placement

The BJP gave more prominence to candidate placement this time. It dropped Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri from the Lok Sabha and fielded them against important AAP leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi respectively. This gave a moral boost to the BJP cadre. The fierce campaign by the BJP against AAP added with welfare promises appears to have worked for the saffron party.
