Who Is Meher Afroz Shaon? Bangladesh National Award-Winning Actress Detained Amid Fresh Violence
Bangladeshi actress Meher Afroz Shaon was detained for allegedly conspiring against the state. Her arrest follows protests, including an attack on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence. Shaon, known for her work in film, was married to writer Humayun Ahmed.

Shaon's detention comes after a series of protests and acts of vandalism, including an attack on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's residence in Dhaka, where visuals showed flames on one of the house's floors.
A group of protesters set fire to Shaon's ancestral home in Jamalpur near Narundi Railway Station, around 6 pm on Thursday evening.
The house belonged to her father, Engineer Mohammad Ali, who had previously sought a nomination from the Awami League.
Shaon received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her role in the 2016 film Krihnopokkho.
She was the wife of the late renowned writer and director Humayun Ahmed.
