8th Pay Commission Vs 7th Pay Commission Salary Calculation --Check How Much Salary Hike Central Government Employees Might Get

The Union cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 16 January 2025 approved setting up the 8th Pay Commission to revise salaries of nearly 50 lakh central government employees and allowances of 65 lakh pensioners.

 

7th Pay Commission Recommended Date of implementation: 01.01.2016 7th Pay Commission Minimum Pay: Based on the Aykroyd formula, the minimum pay in government was recommended to be set at Rs 18,000 per month. 7th Pay Commission Maximum Pay: Rs 2,25,000 per month for Apex Scale and Rs 2,50,000 per month for Cabinet Secretary and others presently at the same pay level.

As per media reports the pay panel will base the fitment factor in the range of 1.92 to 2.86. Should the recommendation of 2.86 fitment factor is given a green signal, the minimum basic salary of a government employee would go up from Rs 18,000 per month to Rs 51,480. The minimum pension, based on the same factor will go up to from Rs 9,000 currently to Rs 25,740.

The 7th Pay commission had recommended for a fitment factor of 2.57. Here is the breakup of expected pay hike based on 3 fitment factors that 8th Pay Commission is likely to recommend -- 1. Fitment factor 1.92; 2. Fitment factor 2.8, 3. Fitment factor 2.86.

At Level 1, the basic salary of central government employees is Rs 18,000, which goes upto Rs 56,100 for Level 10 employees. Now considering 3 expected fitment factors for the 8th Pay Commission, here is the expected hike that might likely be possible.

 

If Fitment Factor is 1.92, the basic pay under 8th Pay Commission is likely to go upto Rs 34,560 for Level 1 employees, while it will reach Rs 107712 for Level 10 Employees

 

If Fitment Factor is 2.8, the basic pay under 8th Pay Commission is likely to go upto Rs 37,440 for Level 1 employees, while it will reach Rs 1,16,688 for Level 10 Employees

 

If Fitment Factor is 2.86, the basic pay under 8th Pay Commission is likely to go upto Rs 51,480 for Level 1 employees, while it will reach Rs 1,60,446 for Level 10 Employees
