Research: "Words" matter in messages about food safety and freshness

According to a recent Cornell University-led study, changing the wording concerning expiration dates on perishable food items--which is now uncontrolled and widely variable--could help minimize food waste. In contrast to "best if used by," some language, such as "best by," has the potential to reduce food waste.
