The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested four more accused in connection with the Kerala gold smuggling case. The arrests were made after their roles in the conspiracy and pursuant smuggling of gold surfaced in investigation. The arrested accused are Mohamed Anwar T M, Hamzath Abdu Salam, Samju TM and Hamjad Ali.

A Special NIA Court on Monday (August 10) rejected the bail plea of of Swapna Suresh, main accused in high-profile Kerala gold smuggling case. The NIA court rejected Swapna's bail petition on the basis of the evidence and case diary. There is prima facie evidence that Swapna Suresh was involved in gold smuggling and there's evidence in case diary that gold was smuggled many times in diplomatic baggage, said the court.

ED gets custody of three people in Kerala gold smuggling case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday obtained the custody of three people in connection with the Kerala gold smuggling-money laundering case. The agency got their custody from a special NIA court in Thiruvananthapuram, officials said. The ED has got the custody of Sarith PS, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair who were arrested by the NIA earlier in this case.

During searches, 2 hard disks, 1 tablet PC, 8 mobile phones, 6 SIM cards, 1 Digital Video Recorder and 5 DVDs were seized besides various documents including bank passbooks, credit/ debit cards, travel documents.

Gold smuggling case: 'Sarith sourced gold in large quantities from abroad'

The NIA on Tuesday (July 28) said in its application before NIA Ernakulam Court for the remand of accused PS Sarith that the accused sourced gold in large quantities from outside India. The NIA also informed the court that the probe has to be conducted abroad in this matter and the NIA also needs to interrogate high profile officials and consulate officials. According to the NIA, the probe has so far revelaed that the Sarith had earned huge profit from this illegal business.
