Bharat NCAP To Cost Automakers Rs 60 Lakh, One-Fourth Of International Price

Car prices may be 'fairly stable' in short term; demand to rise, says Volkswag
Automobile makers witnessed plunging sales in May, reversing the recovery trajectory in the first three months of 2021 that was fuelled by pent-up demand. With the COVID-19 situation improving and curbs easing, overall demand in the economy is expected to pick up in the coming weeks. Major automobile makers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Toyota Kirloskar have reported a decline in domestic passenger vehicle sales in May over April.

Hyundai Motor India total sales dip 48% to 30,703 units in May over April
Domestic sales stood at 25,001 units last month as against 49,002 units in April, a dip of 49 percent. Exports were at 5,702 units last month, down 44 percent from 10,201 units in April, the company said in a statement.

'Junk your old car and get about 5 pc rebate from automakers on new purchase'
The voluntary vehicle scrapping policy announced in the Union Budget for 2021-22 provides for fitness test after 20 years for personal vehicles while commercial vehicles would require it after the completion of 15 years. Automated fitness tests will be set up under public private partnership (PPP) mode while the government will assist private partners and state governments for scrapping centres, he said. This policy is going to be a boon for the automobile sector, making it one of the most profitable sectors which in turn would generate huge employment, the minister said.

Passenger vehicle sales increase by 14.16% in August: SIAM
Passenger vehicle sales increased by 14.16 percent in August to 2,15,916 units. Two-wheeler sales jumped 3 percent to 15,59,665 units. Motorcycle sales were up 10.13 percent, sold 10,32,476 units.

Maruti reports 17% increase in August sales at 1,24,624 units
This is a growth of 15.3% over July 2020 and a 17.1% over August 2019. Total sales include domestic sales of 115,325 units and 1,379 units for other OEMs. Maruti exported 7,920 units in August 2020, a drop of 15.3% over August 2019.

Festive boost: October vehicle registration up four percent
Although the overall record was positive, registration of commercial vehicles registered a de-growth of 23 percent. Registration of personal vehicles rose by 11 percent in October, compared to a year-ago period and that of two-wheelers and three-wheelers were up 5 percent and 4 percent.
