Yearender 2020: Dil Bechara, Laxmii, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl - Top Hindi films which had OTT release

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, some of the most-anticipated films of Bollywood across all genres released on OTT platforms such as Amazon Prime, Netflix and other sites. Due to the shutting of theatres, the filmmakers had no choice but to release the projects on OTT platforms. For the audience, it became an in-house treat to watch these films first day, first show.

 

Many top movies of top celebs took the OTT route and among them was 'Dil Bechara', which marked Sushant Singh Rajput's last film. After his death in June, the team decided to release the film for his fans on Disney+Hotstar.

Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani's 'Laxmii' released in November on Disney+ Hotstar VIP. It is a horror-comedy, which also featured Akshay as a transgender.

'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' is inspired by the life of Indian Air Force combat pilot Gunjan Saxena, and stars Janhvi Kapoor in the titular role. It released on Netflix.

Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana's 'Gulabo Sitabo' released on Amazon Prime in June. It was the first major Bollywood film to opt for a straight to digital release amid the pandemic.

Co-produced by Anushka Sharma, Netflix film 'Bulbbul' revolves around a child bride's story. The supernatural thriller starred Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam, Rahul Bose and Parambrata Chattopadhyay.

Zee5's 'Chintu Ka Birthday' tells the story of a boy named Chintu, stuck in Iraq with his family in 2004. It starred Vinay Pathak, Tillotama Shome, Seema Pahwa and Vedant Chibber.

'Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare', starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar, showed the journey of two sisters who move to a big city to fulfill their dreams. The film is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and released on Netflix.

The Manoj Bajpayee-starrer 'Bhonsle' saw him in the brilliant role of a retired cop, who takes a stand for the migrants. It released on SonyLIV.

'Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai' was directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap. The film starred Saiyami Kher in the lead role and was set against demonetisation period of 2016. It released on Netflix on June 5.
