These guidelines released by TRAI aim to prolong the activeness of SIM cards from Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL.

Without recharging, Airtel SIM cards will stay operational for over 90 days. Following that, users would have a grace period of 15 days to reactivate their number. The same number will be closed for the user and made available to a new user if they don't recharge after this time.

Without being recharged, Jio SIM cards will be operational for 90 days. A plan for reactivation is required after that. After 90 days, if the user chooses not to recharge the SIM, it will be permanently disconnected and transferred to another user.

Vi SIM validity rules

Vi users can go 90 days without having to recharge their SIM card. The user must then recharge their number with a minimum plan of Rs 49 if they wish to keep their number active. The number will be deactivated if no recharge is made after this time.

BSNL offers maximum validity

The government-owned BSNL provides the longest SIM validity term. Without being recharged, a BSNL SIM card will stay active for 180 days. If you want to avoid frequent recharges, this extended plan is one of your best bets.

If the user has a prepaid balance of Rs 20 on his number and the SIM has been inactive for more than 90 days, then the money will be deducted to extend the SIM's activation for another 30 days. Insufficient balance, however, will result in the SIM being terminated and made accessible to new customers.
