IRCTC launches ‘urbanpods’ affordable stays at Mumbai station: Check tariff, photos

The Indian Railways has now started allowing travellers arriving in Mumbai for a short span of time to stay in the modern resting facility. Urbonpods are aimed at providing travellers with comfort and facilities similar to that of a hotel.

Urbanpod stays were first introduced in Japan. "It is a first such initiative by the Indian Railways. It has been developed jointly by Indian Railways and IRCTC. In this facility, there are 48 pods divided into different categories," said Western Railways Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Sumit.

The pod concept-based retiring rooms are segregated as classic pods, exclusive pods for ladies, private pods, and pods for specially-abled. Travellers will get several facilities such as wifi, AC, television, luggage room among other amenities in the pods.

Sumit said that the whole space is a new concept in the hospitality business. “A student or a job aspirant who does not want to go to a hotel for a few hours can stay here at affordable rates. Time is between 12-24 hours with all facilities," he said.

You can book Urbanpods at a minimum price of Rs 999 plus GST for a stay in a classic pod for 12 hours. A 24-hour stay in pods will cost you roughly Rs 1999 plus GST.
