Should You Buy Kia Syros? Discover Its 8 Pros & 5 Cons

Kia Syros Pros And Cons - Review: Kia, which entered the Indian market with the Seltos, has been consistently expanding its portfolio. The company currently offers seven models in India: Sonet, Seltos, Carens, EV6, Carnival, EV9, and the recently launched Syros. Its full portfolio ranges between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 1.30 crore, ex-showroom. The Kia Syros is the latest addition, positioned between the Sonet and Seltos in the lineup, which is reflected through its pricing that starts at Rs 9 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.80 lakh, ex-showroom. This makes it costlier than the Sonet but more affordable than the Seltos. I (Lakshya Rana) drove the Kia Syros for around 200 kilometers. Based on my experience, this article will cover 8 pros and 5 cons of the Kia Syros, followed by my verdict and opinion on who should consider buying this SUV.

Kia Syros Pros

1. Unique Approach: With the Syros, Kia has taken a unique approach, offering Seltos-like space and advanced features in a Sonet-sized package. It seems a well-engineered all-rounder.

2. Design: Its radical design also sets it apart from other models, making it stand out on the road. It feels like Kia has put in a lot of effort to make this SUV versatile.

3. Build Quality: The SUV feels sturdy, and the fit and finish levels are impressive. Everything from the doors to the cabin materials feels premium.

4. Powertrain Options: It comes with both 1-litre turbo-petrol (120 PS/172 Nm) and 1.5L turbo-diesel engine (116 PS/250 Nm) options, and both can be had with an automatic transmission. This adds to the flexibility of choosing the right variant.

5. Performance: The outright performance of the diesel engine is enough to keep most drivers happy with excellent driveability. It gets three drive modes- Eco, Normal and Sport, where Eco is mileage-focused and Sport mode is inclined towards performance. Additionally, three traction modes- Snow, Mud, and Sand, make it versatile to conquer different terrains.

6. Handling & Braking: It feels mature and composed at high speeds. It’s well-planted on highways and offers strong braking performance, giving confidence on long drives.

7. Spacious Cabin: The cabin should be the biggest talking point for the Syros. Its layout makes excellent use of space. The seating is comfortable, and the rear seat is particularly spacious with reclining and sliding functions. Boot space is generous too, ranging from 390 to 465 liters.

8. Features-Packed: It’s loaded with features like a 30-inch display panel, panoramic sunroof, 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, sliding & reclining rear seats, ventilated seats (front & rear), sunshades, paddle shifters, drive & traction modes, remote engine start, electronic parking brake with auto hold, air purifier, 360-degree camera, built-in dashcam with dual cameras, and more. For enhanced safety, it also gets 6 airbags, ADAS Level 2, ESC, HSA, TPMS and more.

1. Its styling won’t appeal to everyone and may divide opinions. You’ll either love it or find it too funky to avoid.

2. Suspension: The ride quality is on the firmer side. It’s fine on regular roads, but on bad patches, especially with the 17-inch wheels, you do feel the bumps.

3. Rear Seat Sitting: While the rear seat is spacious, its width makes it more comfortable for two adults and a child rather than three adults sitting together.

4. Diesel Engine Refinement: I noticed a slight buzz inside the cabin at idle in the 1.5L diesel variant. The engine noise is also more noticeable which could be controlled more efficiently for a better driving experience.

5. Missing Features: While it is loaded with amenities, a few features are missing, like a full-size spare tyre on top trims and rain-sensing wipers, which would have added to the convenience.

Verdict: The Kia Syros is impressive with its bold styling, strong performance, feature-rich and spacious cabin, and solid safety package. Therefore, if you like tech-loaded, stylish SUVs and don’t mind the firm suspension, this is a great option to consider.
