RSS-ISIS comparison is not correct: Umar Khalid's father on Ghulam Nabi Azad's remarks

New Delhi: A day after senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad stoked a controversy by RSS-ISIS remarks, JNU student Umar Khalid's father has said that the comparison is not correct.

"I don't think the comparison is correct," Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas said, according to an interview in TOI.

"ISIS is a militant organisation. RSS is also a militant organisation but that's militancy in the sense of ideology," Umar Khalid's father said.

Earlier, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas had stirred a row by saying that his son was being 'targeted because he was a Muslim'.

JNU student Umar Khalid, accused of sedition, is currently in jail. He had organised the event to commemorate Afzal Guru's death anniversary.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had on Saturday sought to draw a parallel between ISIS and RSS over their alleged attempts to divide communities, saying Muslims oppose both the Islamic State and the Sangh Parivar.

"We see among Muslims too, who have become reason of destruction of Muslim countries today... there are some forces behind it... but we need to understand why Muslims are taking part in it, why they are getting trapped.

"So, we oppose organisations like ISIS, the way we oppose RSS. If those among us, in Islam, too do wrong things, they are no way less than RSS," the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha had said.
