After refusing to chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', Asaduddin Owaisi says 'Jai Hind' – know why

Hyderabad: Controversial Muslim leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said that he will not chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' even if a knife is put to his throat.

He was reacting to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat's suggestion that the new generation should be taught to hail Mother India.

However, a day later, the AIMIM president used the slogan “Jai Hind” while reacting to the news of a petition being filed against him in the Allahabad High Court.

“Mujhe court pe poora bharosa hai, court insaaf karega. Jai Hind (I have full faith in the court, it will do justice. Jai Hind),” Owaisi said, as per ANI.

The PIL was filed against the Hyderabad MP under IPC Section 124A.

"I don't chant that slogan. What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahab. I won't utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife to my throat," Owaisi had said, adding, "Nowhere in the Constitution it says that one should say: 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'."
