Congress leader and former Union Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Shashi Tharoor said that China has its eyes on Tawang and India has to be very careful in this regard. Speaking on the Friday, December 9 clashes between the Indian Army personnel and their Chinese counterparts, Tharoor said that the Indian Army has the entire country`s support in this matter.

"There is no doubt that China has its eyes on Tawang. We have to be very alert there. I think what our Army did yesterday had the support of the entire country," the Thiruvananthapuram MP said. "I told the Defence Minister that they should show the world that India is one and every member of every party is with Army on this,", said Tharoor to ANI at Parliament today.

PM Modi 'scared' of taking China's name: Owasi on India-China Tawang face-off

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has taken a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he has failed to show his political leadership.

"The Prime Minister has failed in showing political leadership. You are delivering a statement regarding a clash that occurred on December 9. Had the media not reported it, you would not have even talked about it," Owaisi said attacking the Centre and asking to take all the parties to the site of the clash to prove that the situation is under control.

He further remarked that the Prime Minister and the government were scared of taking the name of China.

"What all have you done in the 15 rounds of conversation? Take all parties to the site of clash. PM is scared of taking China`s name and his government is scared of speaking about China," he said.

IAF closely monitoring situation along LAC in Arunachal Pradesh

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is closely monitoring the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh following an attempt by the Chinese PLA troops last week to unilaterally change the status quo in the Tawang sector, news agency PTI quoted people familiar with the development. They said the IAF has also stepped up its overall surveillance in the areas in view of the Chinese attempt of transgression on December 9, adding it follows standard operation procedures that included scrambling of fighter jets in case of specific security concerns.

"The situation is being monitored closely by both the IAF and the Army," said one of the people cited above.

The people indicated that the IAF has increased the frequency of the sorties by its combat jets in the region.

Situation 'stable' on border with India, says China after fresh stand-off in Tawang

China has said that the situation was "stable" on its border with India, days after a fresh stand-off between the two countries' militaries in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang.

"As far as we understand, the China-India border situation is stable overall," foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, adding that the two sides "maintained unobstructed dialogue on the border issue through diplomatic and military channels."

China has been asked to refrain from such actions: Rajnath Singh on Tawang face-off

Speaking on the Tawang face-off, Rajnath Singh also stated that China has been asked to refrain from such actions.

The Chinese side was asked to refrain from such actions and maintain peace and tranquility along the border.  The issue has also been taken up with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels," he told Rajya Sabha.

"I would like to assure this House, that our Forces are committed to protecting our territorial integrity and will continue to thwart any attempt made on it.  I am confident that this entire House will stand united in supporting our soldiers in their brave effort," the BJP leader added.

None of our soldiers died or suffered any serious injury: Rajnath Singh on India-China border clash at Tawang

During his statement in the upper house of the Parliament, Rajnath Singh also said that none of the Indian soldiers died or suffered any serious injury during a clash with Chinese troops in Tawang.

"In this face-off, few soldiers on both sides suffered injuries. I'd like to tell this House that none of our soldiers died or suffered any serious injury," he said.

"With timely intervention of Indian military commanders, PLA soldiers have retreated to their own location," the Defence Minister added.

Making a similar statement as he made in Lok Sabha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in Rajya Sabha said that China's PLA troops tried to change the status quo in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang on December 9.

"On December 9, China's PLA troops encroached upon LAC in Yangtse, Tawang sector and attempted to change status quo. This was tackled by our troops in a determined manner. Our troops bravely stopped PLA from encroaching upon our territory and forced them to go back to their post," Singh apprised Rajya Sabha.

"After this incident, on 11th December, the local commander of the area held a flag meeting with his Chinese counterpart under the established system and discussed this incident. The Chinese side was told to maintain peace at the border," Singh says in his statement.

The Congress is all set to corner the Centre in Parliament over the clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh. Congress MP Randeep Surjewala has demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over the situation at the border.

In his notice, Surjewala said all business of the House be suspended and the "brazen Chinese transgressions and illegal occupations in Indian territory and the Chinese provocation at Tawang sector" be discussed urgently.

He urged Prime Minister Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to make a statement and hold a discussion over the issue in the Rajya Sabha.

Similar unconfirmed reports of Chinese transgressions are coming from the Doklam area, he said.

"All these disconcerting reports of Chinese transgressions and illegal occupations require suspension of the business of the House of the day in order to apprise the House and the nation about growing Chinese threat to our national security and territorial integrity," Surjewala said in his notice.

"Public interest demands that the prime minister and defence minister make a statement in the House and apprise the nation of the Chinese transgressions into Indian territory across the LAC, since April 2020 till date," he added.

Condemning the incident, he said the governments of the two nations must work together to resolve problems.

"I was hurt when I heard about the December 9 incident. I condemn this. If PLA continues doing such things in the future, India-China relations will suffer," he said.

Modi govt trying to suppress India-China border issue to save its political image: Congress 

AICC general secretary, communications, Jairam Ramesh said the Congress has been trying to "wake up" the government on the Chinese actions on the border but it is silent in order to "protect its political image".

"We are proud of the bravery of the armed forces. China's actions on the border are completely unacceptable. For the last two years, we have been repeatedly trying to wake up the government, but the Modi government is trying to suppress the matter only to save its political image. The audacity of China is growing because of this," Ramesh said in a tweet in Hindi.

"No one is bigger than the country but Modi ji is putting the country in danger to save his image...," he alleged and said the fresh development along the LAC was worrying.

'Modi govt should be honest': Congress seeks discussion on border issue in Parliament after India-China troops clash in Tawang 

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has said that the Narendra Modi-led government needs to take the nation into confidence by discussing the India-China border issue in Parliament.

"Again our Indian Army soldiers have been provoked by the Chinese. Our jawans fought in a resolute manner and a few of them have been injured too," Kharge said.

"We are one with the nation on the issues of national security and would not like to politicize it. But the Modi government should be honest about the Chinese transgressions and the construction at all points near the LAC since April 2020.

"The government needs to take the nation into confidence by discussing this issue in Parliament," Kharge said in a tweet, adding that "we are forever indebted to the valour and sacrifice of our soldiers".

India-China clash in Tawang sector is first major skirmish between two armies since 2020

India-China clash in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh is the first major clash between the Indian and Chinese armies since August 2020 near Rinchen La in eastern Ladakh. The ties between India and China have nosedived significantly following the fierce clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020 that marked the most serious military conflict between the two sides in decades.

Following the eastern Ladakh standoff, the Indian Army has significantly bolstered its operational capabilities along the LAC in the eastern theatre.

"Both sides immediately disengaged from the area. As a follow up of the incident, own (Indian) commander in the area held a flag meeting with his counterpart to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity," it said.

The Army said there are areas of "differing perception" along the LAC in the Tawang sector.

"In certain areas along the LAC in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh there are areas of differing perception, wherein both sides patrol the area up to their claim lines. This has been the trend since 2006," the Army said.
