New Delhi: The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Tuesday (October 4) decided to award the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger for their experiment with entangled photons, establishing the violation of bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science.

Alain Aspect of France, John F. Clause of the United States of America, and Anton Zeilinger of Austria will now share the Nobel Prize in Physics worth 10 million Swedish kronor.

During the press conference, Anton Zeilinger said, “This prize is an encouragement to young people – the prize would not be possible without more than 100 young people who worked with me over the years.”

The Nobel Prize official Twitter handle wrote that the development of the experimental tools by the 2022 laureates has laid the foundation of a new era of quantum technology.

"Intense research and development are underway to utilise the special properties of individual particle systems to construct quantum computers, improve measurements, build quantum networks and establish secure quantum encrypted communication," tweeted the Nobel Prize.
