1 cup cooked dal (yellow moong or toor dal), 2 cups whole wheat flour, Salt to taste, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala, Fresh coriander leaves (optional), Water (as needed), Ghee or oil for cooking
In a bowl, combine whole wheat flour, salt, cumin seeds, red chili powder, turmeric, and garam masala. Add the cooked dal to the flour mixture. Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. Optionally, you can add chopped coriander leaves for extra flavour!
Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a smooth ball and then flatten it into a small circle with a rolling pin. Dust with flour and roll out into a slightly thick paratha.
Heat a tawa or skillet on medium heat. Place the rolled paratha on the tawa and cook until small bubbles start to appear. Flip and cook the other side. Brush with ghee or oil and flip again to cook both sides until golden brown.
Serve your dal paratha hot with yogurt, pickle, or any chutney of your choice!
For a softer paratha, use warm water to knead the dough. You can also stuff the dough with extra dal or spices for a richer flavour!
