Several petrol pumps have been accused of dispensing low-quality fuel in the past.
However, you can avoid falling victim to such scams by exercising your right to request a filter paper test at any petrol pump.
According to the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, petrol pumps should stock filter papers and offer them to customers when requested to check the quality of petrol.
Using filter paper, you can easily check petrol quality. The process is simple and takes almost no time. This can be done on the spot at the petrol pump.
All you need to do is ask the petrol pump staff for filter paper. Once you receive it, put a few drops of petrol on the filter paper and observe the reaction.
Pure petrol will evaporate without leaving any stains, while adulterated petrol will leave some stains on the paper.
If it leaves stains, it means you have been sold adulterated petrol, and you can now complain to the authorities.
