Hyderabad: A day after heavy rains paralysed the entire city, Hyderabad slowly limped back to normalcy on Tuesday morning, with fewer reports of water-logging.

However, heavy traffic continued at some parts in the city for a second day at a row. Commuters faced traffic snarls near Jubilee Hills check post, Banjara Hills, Panjagutta, Chaderghat Junction, Nagarjuna Circle, etc.

On Monday, three people – including a eight-month-old baby and his father – died due to rain-related incidents. The infant and his father died in a wall collapse, while the other man was electrocuted to death.

The city received 82.6 mm rain in 24-hour span (till 8.30 am Tuesday), said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

While most offices remained open on Tuesday, schools and colleges were shut after government orders. An advisory requesting residents to stay indoors was also issued.

“It stopped raining a while ago. It's nice and sunny now. But rains keep coming back after sometime. Some of my colleagues have opted for work-from-home,” said Prashanti Goswami, a resident of Nizampet.

However, most daily commuters reported no trouble in reaching workplaces.

“The situation is under control today. There was flooding in some low-lying areas yesterday,” said Abhijeet Das, who works with CA Technologies in Hyderabad's Gachibowli area.

Videos of water-flooded homes and market places, creating problems for residents, circulated on social media and WhatsApp.

Recalling the Monday's flood-like situation, Devanand Konwar, director at CA Technologies, said, “The situation was quite bad on Monday and last Friday. No-one was prepared for this. There was so much water logging that travelling in cars and two-wheelers was nearly impossible.”

“Take alternate know roads and drive via safe places,” advices Konwar, who used Google maps to avoid traffic and water-logged areas.

Meanwhile, the Met department forecast rainfall at some places in Telangana during the day.

City police continued working round-the-clock to provide relief to citizens.

"In view of heavy rains, the entire force of Hyderabad City Police including force from L&O Police Stations, Traffic Police Stations, Task Force, Armed Reserve, Home Gaurds, Special Branch, CCS, Armed Reserve, Security Wing have been alerted to be in readiness," said a release issued by the police.
