New Delhi: West Indian legend Brian Lara returned to bat once again on Sunday and scored a fluent 68 runs in a charity match aimed at raising funds for the cyclone-ravaged Dominican Republic.

The University of the West Indies (UWI), in partnership with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), organised the celebrity T20 cricket match at Kensington Oval. And each team fielded six West Indies cricketers and five Caribbean celebrities.

The 46-year-old batted through the innings to guide the University of West Indies side made 6-154. But West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI won the match, thanks to a typically big-hitting performance from Kieron Pollard.

Tropical Storm Erika caused massive flooding and landslides, wreaking havoc in Dominca last month. The natural calamity killed more than 30 people and left hundreds homeless, with an estimated damage upwards of USD 200 million.

Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke, Olympic medallist Yohan Blake, legendary fast bowler Sir Curtly Ambrose, ever green batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Denesh Ramdin, Marlon Samuels and Shane Shillingford also took part in the match.

West Indies Cricket Board said the proceeds from the match would be donated to the Dominica Emergency Relief Fund.

Lara, who is also the Special Envoy of the new Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, toured some of the worst-affected areas along with Dominican prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit after Storm Erika hit the Carribean island on August 27.
