CPL 2016, Trinbago vs Barbados: Hashim Amla, Dwayne Bravo produce record T20 fifth-wicket stand

New Delhi: Third match of the 2016 Caribbean Premier League started with Barbados Tridents taking four top-order batsmen inside five overs.

Well, that was all the visiting side could do on Friday as Trinbago Knight Riders rode on a record fifth-wicket partnership between Hashim Amla and Dwayne Bravo stand to win the match by 11 runs at Queen's Park Oval.

Put into bat, TKR lost the plot losing Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo and Umar Akmal — all considered destructive batsmen — inside the first five overs play.

A typically reticent Amla and explosive Bravo then posted 150 runs off 92 balls for the fifth wicket to create a Twenty20 record, and in the process helped the home team to a 11-run win.

The previous record for a fifth-wicket partnership in T20 cricket was 149 set by Yogesh Takawale and Sairaj Bahutule in the Indian Premier League in 2007.

Amla went on to score 81 from 54 balls having brought up his half century from 42 balls. Bravo remained undefeated 66 with both men hitting four sixes.

Trinidad made 170-5 off their 20 overs before restricting Barbados to 159-8, with unrehalded Akeal Hosein and Ravi Rampaul taking two wickets each.
