Ananta Chaturdashi 2017: Tithi, Timings and significance

After blessing his devotees and witnessing the celebrations for ten days, Ganpati Bappa leaves for his heavenly abode on the day of Ananta Chaturdashi. Lord Ganesha arrived on August 25 and will transcend to his divine destination on September 5.

According to Drikpanchang, the Tithi begins at 12:14 PM on September 4 and end at 12:41PM on September 5.

The Choghadiya Muhurat for Ganesh Visarjan on Ananta Chaturdashi are as follows:

Morning Muhurta (Char, Labh, Amrit) = 9:32 AM to 14:09 PM

Afternoon Muhurta (Shubh) = 15:42 PM to 17:14 PM

Evening Muhurta (Labh) = 20:14 PM to 21:42 PM

Night Muhurta (Shubh, Amrit, Char) = 23:09 PM to 03.32 AM.

With his departure the 10-day long Ganeshotsav festival will culminate.

Ananta Chaturdashi signifies the fourteenth day of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada.

Ganeshotsav is perhaps the biggest festival of the state of Maharashtra. Amid loud and devotional chants – “Ganpati Bappa Morya...Pudhchya Varshi Laukar Ya” (Ganpati Bappa, visit us soon next year), Lord Ganesha is given a grand farewell.

Mammoth idols of Lord Ganesha are taken towards the ocean for immersion and devotees gather in large numbers to join the procession.
