CSK beat SRH by 20 runs

CSK defeated SRH by 20 runs.

With 27 needed from the final two overs, Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo showcased their skills at the death by giving away just 5 and 1 run respectively. 

Ultimately it was a complete all-round effort on the day from CSK with solid performances with both the bat and the ball. 

Jadeja was given the man of the match award.

Karn Sharma gives CSK two important breakthroughs

Karn Sharma broke the dangerous looking 40-run stand between Williamson and Priyam Garg. He dismissed Garg first and then went one better by dismissing Kane Williamson in his final over.

That strike decided the match even though Rashid Khan then hit Sharma for a couple of boundaries. 

He returned figures of 4-0-37-2.

Kane Williamson leads SRH's fightback with fighting fifty

Kane Williamson scored a gritty knock of 57 (off 39 balls; 4x7) and mounted a fine comeback for his side. Strangely, this was also the only half-century of the game. 

While the wickets kept falling at the other end, Williamson ensured that his side were there in the game right till the end.

Ravindra Jadeja removes Bairstow; Breaks dangerous partnership

Jonny Bairstow was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. He was completely outfoxed there. Bairstow was trying to take room and hit it through the off-side. He tried doing that a couple of times and Jadeja saw that. He then bowled a faster one which rips Bairstow's stumps.

Bairtstow made 23 and his partnership with Williamson was looking dangerous. Jadeja put CSK in command with the wicket.

Sam Curran removes Warner, gives crucial breakthrough to CSK

David Warner was out caught and bowled by Sam Curran. It was an inside edge onto the pad which looped straight-up. It was a big blow to SRH as Warner was in good form so far in the tournament. 

Warner was followed back soon to the pavilion Manish Pandey who was run-out by Bravo with a direct-hit.

Innings Summary: CSK post 167/6

CSK posted a competitive total of 167/6 on a slow track at Dubai. Curran, Rayudu and Watson were the highlights for CSK while Dhoni and Jadeja amped it up in the death. 

For SRH, Khaleel and Natarajan picked-up two wickets each but were expensive. Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with a spell of 4-0-19-2.

Dhoni and Jadeja's late hits power CSK to 167/4

After Rayudu and Watson departed in quick succesion, Dhoni and Jadeja took to the crease. The duo engaged in a rapid 32-run stand. Dhoni also hit a 102-metre six off Natarajan but was dismissed off the very next ball.

Dhoni made 21 off 13 balls. 

Jadeja, though,  continued with his fireworks and picked-up some very valuable runs off the final two overs. CSK scored 33 runs off the final two overs with Jadeja remaining unbeaten on 25 off just 10 balls.

Khaleel dismisses CSK's Rayudu; Breaks dangerous partnership

Rayudu and Watson's 81-run stand was broken by Khaleel Ahmed in the 16th over. Rayudu tried to take room and go over long-off but ended up giving the catch to Warner. Rayudu made 41 off 34 balls.

Watson and Rayudu build a solid partnership for CSK

After losing the two early wickets, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu took it upon himself to steady the CSK innings. They engaged in a 81-run stand for the third wicket to give the advantage to their side. They took some time to settle in but then launched themselves. Watson made 42 while Rayudu scored 41.

Sam Curran scores rapid-fire 31

In a surprising move, CSK sent in Sam Curran to open the innings along with Faf du Plessis. Sam Curran was upto the task as he hit two fours and two sixes off Khaleel Ahmed's second over. He made 31 off 21 balls but was then bowled by Sandeep Sharma.

Sandeep Sharma dismisses CSK's Faf du Plessis for Golden duck

In a surprising move, CSK sent in Sam Curran to open the innings along with Faf du Plessis. 

The in-form Faf du Plessis was dismissed for a golden duck by SRH pacer Sandeep Sharma. In the opening two overs, du Plessis didn't face a single delivery and it looked like he lost his concentration. On the first ball of the third over, he nicked an in-swinger and Bairstow took an easy catch. 

Faf du Plessis had been in fantastic form so far in IPL 2020. Sharma followed it up by removing the dangerous looking Sam Curran (31 Off 21 balls).

Chennai Super Kings playing XI

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat first. They opted to bat first for the first time in the tournament.

CSK also made just one change to their playing XI. They brought in veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla in place of  batsman N Jagadeesan. It was a surprising move as CSK went with two leg-spinners with Karn Sharma and Piyush Chawla both playing.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat first.

SRH made just one change from their previous game. They brought in left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem in place of youngster Abhishek Sharma. While Sharma is an all-rounder, SRH went ahead with a full-time spin bowling option like Nadeem - who also has a lot of prior experience in the IPL. 

SRH started the game at the fifth position on the points table.
