Although some sections claimed that CR Patil could be the next CM of Gujarat, the leader himself denied being in the race. “There are a lot of names in the media for the new Chief Minister, including my name. I want to make it clear that I am not in any such race,” he said.

BJP’s state vice president Gordhan Zadafia is also on the list of probable leaders to assume the CM post. He was the home minister in the Modi government in Gujarat in 2002.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was among those who attended the meeting following the resignation of Vijay Rupani at the party office. A BJP veteran, Mandaviya could be given the responsibility to lead the state.

Parshottam Rupala, Union Cabinet Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and a member of Rajya Sabha is being seen as one of the top contenders for the post.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel is one of the probable choices for the CM post. He handles various portfolios in the state government including Health, Medical Education, Family Welfare, Road and Building, Capital Project.
