Telangana: Pregnant woman stripped, paraded by kin of husband's first wife

Warangal: A pregnant woman was allegedly stripped and paraded by kin of her husband's first wife in DC Thanda village in the district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place yesterday in Wardhannapet mandal. A farmer, Ravi, who is married to one Swaroopa, secretly married another woman in March last year, Wardhannapet Circle Inspector Satish said.

Ravi stayed with his second wife in Warangal. Swaroopa pleaded for justice and a village panchayat asked Ravi to pay Rs 7.5 lakh to her and her two children, the officer said.

During the hearing, there was a heated argument between Ravi and Swaroopa. The pregnant second wife, who was present at the spot, argued in favour of Ravi. At this time, Swaroopa's kin allegedly attacked Ravi and fled.

Then they attacked his second wife, stripped and paraded and injured her, police said.

A case under relevant sections of IPC was registered against nine persons in this regard.

Swaroopa, Ravi and four others have been detained, the officer said, adding three others are absconding.

Police said the victim was admitted to a local hospital and probe is on.
