Chennai: In the latest bulletin issued on Saturday, the Apollo Hospitals said that Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa was undergoing 'lung de-congestion' as well as other 'comprehensive measures'.

They also said that she continues to be under constant monitoring.

"The honourable CM continues to be under constant monitoring by the intensivists and consultants in the panel (of specialists).  The respiratory support is being closely watched and adjusted. Lungs decongestion treatment is being continued. All the other comprehensive measures including nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy are under way," the hospital's chief operating officer Subbiah Viswanathan said in a short press release.

68-year-old Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration.

The hospital had on Thursday said that she "continues to improve but requires a longer stay at the hospital".

Among others, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and MDMK founder Vaiko have visited the hospital.

Prayers held for Tamil Nadu CM

Meanwhile, prayers were held across the state by AIADMK supporters for the speedy recovery of their party chief.

Among others, the state-run Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University organised a mass prayer of students and teachers for Jayalalithaa's recovery.

Devotional songs and music were played, including by the varsity's vice chancellor E Gayathri, a veena exponent.

Prayers were also held by party supporters at different places of worship in different parts of the state.

DMK seeks interim arrangement to handle issue like Cauvery

On the other hand, Opposition DMK yesterday had sought an interim arrangement to 'effectively' handle issues likes the Cauvery row till the time Tamil Nadu CM returns after treatment from the hospital.

Party Treasurer and Opposition leader in the Tamil Nadu Assembly MK Stalin had said - "...Till the time she comes (back), there should be an acting CM or a deputy CM, which would be taken up by ministers who are next in the hierarchy and take decisions in matters like the Cauvery issue. This is our stand."
