Google celebrates Charles Perrault's 388th birthday with a dreamy doodle!

New Delhi: If as a child you loved reading fairy tales, you should probably thank this man!

Charles Perrault, the author of Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella has been honoured by Google with an enchanting doodle on his 388th birthday.

Perrault was born on 12 January 1628 in Paris to a wealthy bourgeois family, the seventh child of Pierre Perrault and Paquette Le Clerc.

He is credited with laying the foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy tale, with his works derived from pre-existing folk tales.  

Some of Perrault’s versions of old stories may have influenced the German versions published by the Brothers Grimm 200 years later. The stories continue to be printed and have been adapted to opera, ballet, theatre, and film.

Perrault was an influential figure in the 17th-century French literary scene, and was the leader of the Modern faction during the Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns.
