Sheena Bora murder: Indrani Mukerjea, Sanjeev Khanna's judicial custody extended

A Mumbai court on Monday extended judicial custody of Indrani Mukherjea's former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai till October 19 in Sheena Bora murder case.

Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Monday extended judicial custody of Indrani Mukherjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai till October 19 in Sheena Bora murder case.

Indrani, wife of former STAR INdia CEO, was arrested on August 25 for her role in the murder of Sheena Bora, her daughter from a previous marriage, in April 2012. The two other accused in the case are Shyamvar Rai, Indrani's former driver and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.

The sensational case was initially handled by Mumbai Police under the supervision of the then police commissioner Rakesh Maria and later transferred to the CBI by the Maharashtra government.

The CBI lodged a separate case against the three late last month.

Since September 7, Indrani, Khanna and Rai have been lodged in judicial custody.

Former media magnate Indrani was on Friday hospitalised after drug overdose with doctors describing her condition as "serious", leading to speculation that she might have attempted suicide.

The JJ hospital where Indrani is admitted has said that has regained consciousness and is out of danger.

TP Lahane, dean of Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, said Indrani was "out of danger, conscious but drowsy".

"She is now out of danger and conscious. She is still drowsy and responds to oral commands. We have given her water and she drank it. She will be kept under observation for another 48 hours. Thereafter she will be discharged," he told media persons.

On Saturday, Lahane had said Indrani lapsed into 'deep sleep' or stupor, but she emerged from it after nearly 18 hours.

Indrani's daughter Sheena, 24, was allegedly kidnapped from outside National College in Bandra and strangled to death in a car by Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai.
