All arrangements have been made by the Haryana State Election Commission to ensure peaceful, free and fair polling in the first phase of general elections for Panchayati Raj Institutions that begins today.

Chandigarh: All arrangements have been made by the Haryana State Election Commission to ensure peaceful, free and fair polling in the first phase of general elections for Panchayati Raj Institutions that begins today.

According to Haryana State Election Commissioner Rajeev Sharma, the elections are be held at 8,981 polling stations spreading over 47 blocks, where around 46.6 lakh voters are expected to cast their votes.

In the first phase, 3,339 candidates are contesting elections for 416 wards of Zila Parishads, 4,883 candidates for 1,221 wards of Panchayat Samitis, 11,296 for 2,583 posts of Sarpanches and 24,143 for 26,248 posts of Panches. The polling began at 7:30 am today and will end at 4 pm.

Those who would be in queue or in the premises of polling booth up to 4 pm would be given identity slip to cast their vote.

The counting would begin for Sarpanches and Panches soon after that and results would be declared soon after counting is completed. Sharma said for the first time e-Dashboard has been introduced for monitoring the entire election.
