Bihar: Students failed in boards queue up at NIOS

NIOS, formerly known as National Open School, was established in 1989 as an autonomous organisation by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Patna: Hundreds of students who could not clear 10th and +2 exam from different boards recently in Bihar are queuing up in the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to save their one year.

"More than 800 students have applied in Stream 2 so far in which examination would be conducted in September-October this year," NIOS regional director Sanjay Kumar Sinha said.

The last date for applying under Stream 2 is June 30, 2016, he said in a statement here.

"This innovating scheme to save one year of a student who failed to clear the board exam and keep them in the mainstream of academics is the brainchild of NIOS director KB Sharma," he said.

Besides, the NIOS is also providing "On demand exam" facilities to failed students who are prepared to face the test immediately, Sinha said.

"Under stream 2, the NIOS is also providing the facility of ToC (Transfer of Credit). Under this, a failed student has to appear in at least three subjects including the subject he/she has failed. The original marks of rest two subjects in the previous exam would be credited in the new marksheet," the NIOS regional director added.

Forms for Stream 2, 3 and 4 are available on website www.nios.ac.in and there is a facility of applying online, he said.

Sinha said that for the convenience of students, the NIOS has opened four new centres in Purnea, Gaya, Ara and Darbhanga in addition to Patna for On-demand examination.

NIOS, formerly known as National Open School, was established in 1989 as an autonomous organisation by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
