Patna: Days after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that liquor will be banned in the state from April 1, 2016, he has now come up with a novel idea to aid those whose liquor shops will be affected by the prohibition.

Nitish Kumar is planning to offer them dairy booths.

The government is in discussing with Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation (COMPFED) the modalities for converting liquor shops into dairy booths.

Notably, Indian-made foreign liquor is sold at around 6,000 shops across Bihar.

"We have plans to protect jobs of those who are in the business of running liquor shops. These liquor shops are in prime localities. These can be converted into milk booths which can sell Sudha brand," The Times of India quoted the Bihar CM as saying.

The Bihar government will first ban 'desi' liquor from April 1, 2016, and then 'videshi' from September 2016.
