Mumbai: A man was taken aback after he found his photograph on posters of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate Elphinstone Stampede here.

The stampede took place over rumours that a foot-over bridge at the Elphinstone railway station collapsed leaving 23 people dead and another 30 injured.

34-year-old Mumbai-based Imran Shaikh, a survivor of the mishap, spotted himself among the deceased on the widely-circulated posters and banners that became part of the rallies.

Imran earlier had given a photograph of his sitting right next to his uncle, who died during the stampede, to a journalist at KEM Hospital.

According to him, he had asked the journalist to crop his uncle's face as he had that only photograph of his uncle with him.

"They were asking me for my uncle's photo the only picture I had was with me. My family members and I are still getting phone calls from relatives inquiring about my well being. I had to tell my relatives, 'main Zinda hoon'," Imran told India Today.
