A big shock for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as eight MLAs who had resigned from the party joined the BJP in the presence of Delhi BJP chief Virender Sachdeva and other party leaders on Saturday, just a few days ahead of the polls.

The former AAP MLAs who joined the saffron party today are Vandana Gaur (Palam), Rohit Mehraulia (Trilokpuri), Girish Soni (Madipur), Madan Lal (Kasturba Nagar), Rajesh Rishi (Uttam Nagar), B S Joon (Bijwasan), Naresh Yadav (Mehrauli) and Pawan Sharma (Adarsh Nagar).

Welcoming the MLAs to the BJP, Panda called it a "historic" day, saying they have escaped "AAPda" (disaster) and expressed hope that Delhi would also be freed from it after the February 5 polls.

On Friday, AAP MLAs resigned from the party including Kasturba Nagar MLA Madan Lal, Janakpuri MLA Rajesh Rishi, Bijwasan MLA B.S. June, Adarsh Nagar MLA Pawan Sharma, Palam MLA Bhavna Gaur, Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav, and Trilokpuri MLA Rohit Mehraulia have all left the party. All these MLAs were reportedly upset over being denied tickets by the AAP.

Most of the MLAs posted their resignation letters on social media, criticising AAP over corruption and various other issues.

The National Capital is set to hold elections for all 70 assembly seats on February 5, with vote counting on February 8.
