Los Angeles: UFC fighter Ronda Rousey has been confirmed to headline MGM's reboot of the 1989 cult classic "Road House".

Ronda is set to play the lead role made famous by Patrick Swayze. In the original film, he portrayed a bouncer who protects a small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman, according to Variety.

The UFC champion has reached out to Lisa Niemi to ask for her blessing, which the late actor's widow gladly gave.

Production is expected to begin in early 2016 following Rousey's next fight against Holly Holm on November 14. The studio is currently meeting with screenwriters.

"It is a great honour to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn't be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze. I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute his family and fans can be proud of," she said.

Ronda has appeared on "The Expendables 3", "Entourage", and "Furious 7". She is now attached to star in her own biopic "My Fight/Your Fight" at Paramount, "The Athena Project" at Warner

Bros, and action thriller "Mile 22" to be directed by Peter Berg.
