New Delhi: Hollywood actor Pierce Brosnan recently created controversy by featuring in an advertisement for an Indian breath freshener brand. With this, he also attracted a lot of uninvited attention from social media users. He was trolled and criticised online for doing the same. But, Pierce is actually distressed by the ‘deceptive use’ of his image.

In an exclusive statement to the People Magazine, he said, "as a man who has spent decades championing women’s healthcare and environmental protection, I was distressed to learn of Pan Bahar’s unauthorized and deceptive use of my image to endorse their range of pan masala products. I would never have entered into an agreement to promote a product in India that is dangerous to one’s health."

The 'Taffin' hunk explained that he was roped in to endorse a product which is 'all-natural containing neither tobacco, supari, nor any other harmful ingredient'.

"Having endured, in my own personal life, the loss of my first wife and daughter as well as numerous friends to cancer, I am fully committed to supporting women’s healthcare and research programs that improve human health and alleviate suffering," he added.

Pierce stated that this is a violation of his contract and also apologised to the people for the controversial ad.

The 63-year-old star, best known for his stint as the legendary British spy James Bond in the popular film franchise, featured in the print ad holding a box of the pan masala, Pan Bahar, with the text below reading 'class never goes out of style'.

The actor's signature also found space in the ad, which splashed across the front page of a few national dailies.
