Writer Arundhati Roy returns her National Award

Arundhati Roy returns her National Award, calls it a "political movement"

New Delhi: Famour writer Arundhati Roy has joined the bandwagon of writers returning their awards.

The Booker Prize winner has returned her National Award for Best Screenplay to join the string of artists who are a part of 'Award Wapsi'.

The writer won the National Award for the 1989 film 'In Which Annie Gives it Those Ones.'

According to a report by Indian Express, Roy asserted that 'intolerance' is the wrong word that is being used here. She adds that these horrific murders are “only a symptom of a deeper malaise.”

Roy called the 'award wapsi' a “political movement” initiated by the writers, filmmakers and academicians who have chosen to protest against the “ideological viciousness” and “assault on collective IQ.”
