The three-match ODI series against New Zealand will not include middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer owing to a back ailment, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated on Tuesday. He will be travelling to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for additional evaluation and management, according to a statement from the organisation. Iyer has been replaced in the ODI team for the series by Rajat Patidar, who has yet to make his professional debut.

Iyer, who batted at No. 4 and participated in every game of the just-finished series against Sri Lanka, scored 28, 28 and 38 runs. After Shubman Gill, he has scored 818 runs at an average of 51.12 in ODIs for India since 2022. The 28-year-old also contributed significantly to India's victory over Bangladesh in the Test series in December of last year, scoring 87 and 29* runs at Mirpur to help India take the series finale.
