New Delhi: David Warner on Friday smashed his second straight hundred to lead Australia to a fighting total 264 for eight in the third Chappell-Hadlee Trophy ODI match against New Zealand in Melbourne.

The left-handed batsman, who faced the first ball of the match, was run out on the last ball after making a brilliant 156 off 128 balls, which included 13 fours and four sixes.

The 30-year-old hit 119 off 115 balls against the Black Caps in Canberra on Tuesday. He thus become the first Australian to hit back-to-back hundreds twice in ODI.

He hit 163 and 100 in successive matches against Sri Lanka in 2012. It has his 11th ODI hundred, and seventh of the year, which helped him equal former India captain Sourav Ganguly's record.

Only Indian great Sachin Tendulkar, with nine in 1998, has hit more ODI centuries in a calendar year.
