Let`s embrace small, independent films too: Dasari Narayana Rao

Chennai: Veteran Telugu filmmaker Dasari Narayana Rao, who believes that all kinds of films need to be embraced, is saddened that his recent film ‘Mithunam’ could hardly find any theatres for release.
"I know for a fact that a producer makes a film to earn profits and so does a theatre owner who releases films. But that doesn`t mean we disregard small and independent films. Even these films deserve to be watched as most of them are extremely well made," Rao said.
"It is sad to know that a wonderful film such as `Mithunam` was released in select theatres when ideally it deserved a wider release. To assume all small films may not be up to the mark is simply not acceptable," he added. The film, which released Dec 28, 2012, managed to get few screens in Andhra Pradesh, and it wasn`t released in a single multiplex. Directed by Tanikella Bharani, ‘Mithunam’ stars S.P Balasubramanyam and Lakshmi, who play the only two characters in the film. The story revolves around the marital relationship of an elderly couple. Did you like the film? "Yes, it was very well made and definitely deserves to be watched by one and all. I believe the film will be a strong contender for National award," said Dasari. The film is based on a Telugu novel of the same name written by Sri Ramana. IANS
