MJ’s crystal glove expected to fetch more than £250k at auction

London: Some of Michael Jackson’s signature costumes, including one of his right-handed crystal gloves are set to go under the hammer. It is expected that the sparkling accessory will fetch in excess of 250,000 pounds, the price paid for an almost identical item in 2009. Other pieces on offer include the 50-year-old’s Captain EO shirt, the black spandex outfit from his ‘Scream’ video and the breakaway suit he wore during his BAD tour in the late 1980s. Before going to auction this December, the entire collection will be showcased at various locations across Europe, Asia and South America. Many of the costumes and personal fashion possessions of the legendary singer haven’t been seen in public since he died on June 25, 2009. LA-based designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, his longtime costumiers, created the various costumes that the King of Pop wore at concerts. The Icons and Idols exhibit will open on May 18 at the Museo De La Moda in Santiago, Chile and the final sale will take place at Julien’s Auctions on December 2 in their Beverly Hills, California gallery. “There is no doubt that Michael Jackson was a global fashion icon as well as award winning and beloved musician,” the Daily Mail quoted a spokesperson from the auction house as saying. “His wardrobe dictated many of the styles throughout the last few decades. Jackson played a very intimate role in the designs and completion of every costume and piece of clothing he wore both on stage and in his personal life,” the spokesperson said. A portion of the proceeds of the auction will help two charities, ‘Guide Dogs of America’ and ‘Nathan Adelson Hospice’ in Las Vegas. Costumier Bush will also launch an illustrated book ‘Dressing Michael Jackson: Behind the Seams of a Fashion Icon’ this October, which details the costumes, apparel, shoes and accessories worn by Jackson.
