Government will review progress of the Make in India initiative on completion of one year and deliberate on steps to give a further boost to the initiative, aimed at making the country a global manufacturing hub.

New Delhi: Government will review progress of the Make in India initiative on completion of one year and deliberate on steps to give a further boost to the initiative, aimed at making the country a global manufacturing hub.

A programme is expected to be held during the last week of October where all the concerned departments including the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will discuss the ways to further push the manufacturing sector's growth, an official said.

The initiative launched on September 25 last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was aimed at making India an global manufacturing hub and create millions of jobs.

Under the programme, the government has identified 25 key sectors like in which India has the potential of becoming a world leader.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country has witnessed a 48 percent jump in the seven-month period (October 2014 to April 2015) after the launch of the campaign.

The official said that there is plan to invite state government officials besides industry representatives for their participation in the deliberations.

In the last one year, the government had announced several steps to improve ease of doing business and attract foreign direct investment into the country.

FDI increased by 31 percent to USD 9.50 billion during April-June this fiscal.
