Right time to release `Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish`: Deepti Naval

New Delhi: Deepti Naval`s debut directorial venture `Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish` which is awaiting release may hit theatres soon. The veteran actress says she is all set to bring the film to the audience this year. The film premiered in the market section of 2009 Cannes Film Festival, and got a positive response. Naval said that she could not manage to find the right distributor, who would be able to handle the sensitivity of the film`s subject. "My film is about a prostitute and a gay man. When I made the film people wondered in which category to put this film. We didn`t find the right combination- the right distributor, who would know how to market this kind of subject. I am trying to take it to release in the next few months without any further delay," Naval said. `Do Paise Ki Dhoop...` stars Manisha Koirala, Rajit Kapur and Naval`s nephew, newcomer, Sanaj Naval in the lead roles. The 56-year-old actress feels with the change in the present scenario of the film industry, she can comfortably bring out her kind of cinema. "Now people are beginning to see that the more experimental the subject, the better. Out of curiosity a lot more people will want see it. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I think it is the right time to bring out my kind of cinema," she said. Incidentally, Naval`s cult 1981 film `Chashme Buddoor` is being re-released after over 3 decades on April 5. The film`s remake directed by David Dhawan is also set to hit screens on the same date. The original `Chashme Buddoor` directed by Sai Paranjpye also starred Farooque Sheikh, Rakesh Bedi and Ravi Baswani. "I think the decision to have both films release on the same day may have been taken by the distributors themselves. It could be co-incidental or could be strategy. I am not sure because the same people are releasing both the films, so they may have thought that they will benefit from each other," the actress said. Naval started her film career by playing a supporting role in 1977 film `Jallian Wala Bagh`. She also did a role in Shyam Benegal`s 1978 film `Junoon`. Later in 1980 she worked in `Ek Baar Phir` as the main lead actress. She is known to be a sensitive actress and was a part of the art and light films of the 80`s- `Saath Saath`, `Mirch Masala`. She also starred in films like `Leela, `Freaky Chakra`, `Firaaq` and most recently in `Listen... Amaya`. Reflecting on her 34 year long career in the film industry, Naval said, "I have done very few films. My career has been very spaced out. I have also done one film a year at times because I was not sure about the roles offered to me and waited for interesting roles to come my way. "I have been around for more than 30 years and it has been quite a journey. It had its glorious moments on camera and painful moments off camera. I love old Hindi songs, black and white films. I wish I was born 20 years earlier so I could have worked with Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt and K Asif. PTI
