One year of 'Aligarh': Hansal Mehta looks back at film journey

Mumbai: As his film "Aligarh" on Sunday clocked one year since its release, filmmaker Hansal Mehta says he is overwhelmed with all the love that the film got.

"Last year, our labour of love hit the marquee. The love continues to pour in. One year of 'Aligarh'," Mehta tweeted.

"Aligarh" is based on the real life incident of Srinivas Ramchandra Siras -- an academician at the Aligarh Muslim University -- who was suspended from his job because of his sexual orientation. The film stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao.

Mehta also praised Manoj saying that "without your charm, empathy and meditative presence Dr Siras would've been relegated to distant memory. You made him a hero, Manoj Bajpayee".

He then went on to appreciate Rajkummar "for trusting us and making Deepu Sebastian his own".
